Teacher Workshop - Introduction to Ocean Science

During this three-part series, we will explore essential science concepts in the unique and important context of ocean science through engaging investigations and meaningful writing. Participants will leave knowing more about the ocean, its inhabitants and human interactions with the ocean. All participants will receive activities and other resources to use in their classroom.

Advanced Camp - Aquarist in Training

The first step in proper animal care, is knowing an animal’s needs and the considerations that must be made before bringing any animal into an aquarium. Aquarists in training will spend a fun-filled week learning about aquarium animal collection techniques and their habitat needs, and viewing behind-the-scenes areas. You will learn what it takes to collect and care for the thousands of marine animals housed here as you help the biologists during field trips along the coast to collect jellies, snails, crabs, sea stars and fish for Aquarium exhibits.

Advanced Camp - Intertidal Studies

Our coastal backyard is teeming with life to discover and study. Join our community of up-and-coming marine biology gurus as we travel to Cape Cod, the Harbor Islands and more. Try seining and tidepooling for the life that can be found as you spend a week at the beach as a marine scientist!

Advanced Camp - Mammal Mentors

Get up close and personal with the marine mammals of the Aquarium! Meet a seal, discover the demanding needs of marine mammals, and investigate the realm of marine mammal training. Connect to the largest mammals on Earth by observing them upon a whale watch with marine biologists as your guide. As a camper, you will investigate the issues facing marine mammals locally and globally, and will learn what role you can play for the conservation of this magnificent group of animals!

Advanced Camp - Marine Science 101

Curiosity and exploration is what drives successful marine biologists. Build your marine science know-how in this two-week program where you will begin the journey by learning what scientists need to know to assess the health of the environment. Practice these approaches via exploration and assessment of local habitats, utilize GIS (a powerful mapping tool in conjunction with GPS technology), investigate fish biology and pursue the answers to questions we face in a world of changing global and local environmental conditions. The second week is spent exploring the unique habitats of the New England shoreline to put these skills to use during a four-night visit to Project Oceanology, a premiere ocean science and education facility.
